This press release is worthy of notice because the point of view deserves to be heard. It also strikes me that the titles of her books are pretty clever…
‘Thugs’ Author Talks About the Dangers of Dating the ‘Wrong Man’:
J.Gail, a local Philadelphia author who wrote the wildly popular reality fiction novels “Thugs are for Fun” and “Thugs Ain’t No Fun At All,” and a local person who followed the case of LaToyia Figueroa closely from the beginning, has a simple assessment of what happens in sad cases like these.“These are good women who got involved with the wrong kind of men. There are a lot of women who get mixed up with the wrong type of guys - some women reading this right now may even have serious concerns about the man they are seeing, dating or even married to.”
Some may look at J.Gail’s books and scoff, saying they, along with urban and hip hop fiction novels, glorify the ‘thug’ culture, to which LaToyia and others like her have fallen victim. J.Gail answers that claim by asserting that there is a good and bad side to dating men who are thought to be thugs, and that she has been crystal clear about this difference in her two novels. The second book even contains a scene where the main character receives a near-fatal beat down by the hands of a treacherous thug. At one point in the book, the main character is drawn in by the lure of having a male companion around to occupy the time, even if she didn’t want to be serious with him. She ignores the warning signs about this bad guy, and it puts her in a very dangerous position. She’s now in a situation where she can’t escape this thug, and he almost kills her. The author also asserts that it’s not just ‘thugs’ that can be a problem - every type of man could be capable of cold-blooded murder and domestic violence, even professional and college educated men.
