Scripting News: 4/11/2006
[Dave Winer] just ust spotted a new, very nice feature on Google. Not sure if everyone can see it, so I’ll describe it in words. I did a search for Canada. In the left margin there are blue wedges. Click on a wedge and it expands, to reveal details, click again, it collapses. Outlining shows up, in a simple manner, in a Google display. (Postscript: I just tried it again, and now I don’t get the wedges.) Permanent link to this item in the archive.

I want this!

CNN.com - Ahmadinejad: Iran has enriched uranium - Apr 11, 2006

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Tuesday that Iran has successfully enriched uranium.

“Iran has joined countries with nuclear technology,” he said.

Good for Iran! I don’t care if they build nuclear power plants or even nuclear weapons. What I care about is whether they are responsible enough to manage them –which the current government of Iran obviously is not.

Damn Interesting » North Korea’s “Secret” Hotel

The DPRK is also one of the world’s most secretive nations. For a North Korean, contact with a foreigner can land one in jail… or worse. But there is one embarrassing secret that is hard for the government to hide, literally. It’s the Ryugyong Hotel in the Potong District of North Korea’s capital city of Pyongyang. It’s difficult to hide because it’s a massive, 105-story structure which dominates the city’s skyline. It’s an embarrassment because it’s a complete engineering failure… its empty, dilapidated husk lurks over the capital, mocking the citizens of the proud country.

the Ryugyong Hotel

Wow.

Guardian Unlimited | Special reports | Security lapse reveals secrets of Air Force One

Air Force One, the presidential jet, is a near-mythical symbol of US power, shrouded in so much secrecy that even foreign leaders invited on board are forbidden from seeing every corner. But the aircraft just became rather less mysterious after it emerged that detailed plans of its interior and exterior had been made publicly available on the website of an American air force base.

One diagram shows the location of the president’s suite, at the very front of the Boeing 747, which is known to include a medical facility, workout room, kitchen and office, as well as a bedroom. … The information appears to be intended for personnel involved in responding to an emergency on board.
