16 Days and Counting

Sorry to be MIA on everyone lately. My toughest project to date is due in 16 days. However, last week offered an opportunity to catch up with my coauthor John Ankerberg as we continued work on the upcoming manuscript for our book on the Middle East conflict. Our latest title idea is still being finalized and I’ll let you know more as the release nears in February.

I’ve also spoken a couple times this month, started a freelance project on some revisions for Living by the Book by Howard Hendricks, and am planning a mission trip to Haiti in mid-Oct. I can’t wait to share some stories soon, hopefully with a new website in the near future. Stay tuned!

I value your comments at dillon@dillonburroughs.org.

A must read for anyone who is considering print on demand publishing or self publishing. It's no exaggeration to say that you will learn things from this book that will enable you to double or triple your profits and to save months in production time. Highest recommendation.

NASA sets a “new standard” for vigilance?

After numerous cameras took pictures above and below Atlantis, some of them maneuvered robotically by the shuttle astronauts, NASA proclaimed the spacecraft damage-free.

“We’ve seen a new standard in NASA vigilance,” said shuttle program manager Wayne Hale.

How timely.

The Luftwaffe Flies Only By Day

Confronted by the Islamist threat on all sides, Europe pathetically caves in – Comment – Times Online

After a day of briefings in Kabul, our friendly Nato hosts flew us by military transport to Herat, on the western border with Iran. We were due to spend a day touring a Nato post in the city and then fly back that evening to the capital. But the Danish plane that had taken us developed propeller problems and was grounded. As we cooled our heels outside the airfield , we waited for word of the aircraft that was supposed to come for us: a German C-130.

It soon became clear that the replacement plane was not coming. The reason, it turned out, was that the Germans would not fly in the dark. German aircraft are not permitted by their national rules to undertake night flights.

Now to those who survived the Blitz and Barbarossa, the news that today’s Luftwaffe will not fly at night in potentially hostile environments might be regarded as a welcome historical development. But when you are trying to fight a war against a ruthless band of terrorists who operate 24/7, never pausing to consider the dangers of venturing out in the dark, limiting yourself to daytime operations is a little constraining.

Patrica Dunn needs to go to jail

H.P. Said to Have Studied Infiltrating Newsrooms – New York Times

Hewlett-Packard conducted feasibility studies on planting spies in news bureaus of two major publications as part of an investigation of leaks from its board, an individual briefed on the company’s review of the operation said yesterday.

The studies, referred to in a Feb. 2 draft report for a briefing of senior management, are said to have included the possibility of placing investigators acting as clerical employees or cleaning crews in the San Francisco offices of CNET and The Wall Street Journal.

Wow, this just keeps getting more appalling. Patricia Dunn needs to go to jail.

Richard Armitage, Bald-faced Liar

Novak: Real story behind Armitage’s role

hen Richard Armitage finally acknowledged last week he was my source three years ago in revealing Valerie Plame Wilson as a CIA employee, the former deputy secretary of state’s interviews obscured what he really did. I want to set the record straight based on firsthand knowledge.

First, Armitage did not, as he now indicates, merely pass on something he had heard and that he ‘‘thought’’ might be so. Rather, he identified to me the CIA division where Mrs. Wilson worked, and said flatly that she recommended the mission to Niger by her husband, former Amb. Joseph Wilson.

Second, Armitage did not slip me this information as idle chitchat, as he now suggests. He made clear he considered it especially suited for my column.

.

I’m old fashioned. To me, this absolutely destroys Armitage’s reputation.

Pepe Escobar remembers another Sep. 11

Asia Times Online :: Asian News, Business and Economy – The other September 11

THE ROVING EYE
The other September 11
By Pepe Escobar

SANTIAGO, Chile – You don’t need an Osama bin Laden to pull a September 11. Forget Boeings-turned-into-missiles crashing into twin towers. Switch for a moment to four military planes bombing a presidential palace – and replay a different September 11 movie starring Dick and Henry. “Dick”, of course, is the late US president Richard Nixon. “Henry” was his national security adviser, Henry Kissinger.

Boycott HP until pretexting heads roll

Hewlett-Packard Spied on Writers in Leaks – New York Times

The California attorney general’s investigation into the purloining of private phone records by agents of Hewlett-Packard has revealed that the monitoring effort began earlier than previously indicated and included journalists as targets.

I won’t buy any HP products until the people who funded this appalling violation of privacy resign, or, better, or fired. Let’s start with Carla Dunn.
