May 29, 2007 - Filmmaker siblings Paul and Chris Weitz may segue from The Golden Compass to another long-awaited fantasy epic, Michael Moorcock’s The Elric Saga. Universal optioned Elric in 2003 for the Weitz brothers to adapt.“Of the great classic fantasy series it’s the one that hasn’t been done yet,” Chris Weitz informed EmpireOnline.com. “My brother Paul and I liked those books growing up and we’ve met Michael Moorcock and he trusts us to take those books forward.”
The Weitz brothers will produce Elric via their Depth of Field shingle. While no director has been set yet, Chris added, “I’d really like it if my brother directed them.”
The Elric books might be terrific movies. I say might because the visuals (albino Elric, mystical sword) could easily overcome the interior perspective which is really the best part of the Elric books.
