Sea level rise threatens to obliterate Google Map Maker’s 40 island nations

It would have been nice in this context if they had mentioned that island nations are particularly threatened by climate change and sea level rise. For example, Small Island Developing Nations Network exists specifically to address these needs. The IPCC Third Assessment Report addressed the issue and identified

the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Tonga, the Federated States of Micronesia, and the Cook Islands (in the Pacific Ocean); Antigua and Nevis (in the Caribbean Sea); and the Maldives (in the Indian Ocean)

as among the most threatened.

It would be a shame if the Google Maps for some of these nations have to be replaced by blue circles of sea water!
