Content Footnotes: No.

I am not a fan of the content footnote (i.e., anything other than bibliographic references) and they are strongly discouraged in this Nimble Books Style Guide.  I prefer and highly recommend that textual material is in the footnote should be limited to bibliographic comments.

For bibliographic footnotes, please use the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, and, above all, whatever you do, be consistent.
