Pajama Media blogger Kim Zigfeld has launched an ad hominem attack on Nimble Books author David Axe, who responds quite sensibly.
I feel impelled to observe how very tired I am of the degeneration of public discourse into an exercise in scoring trivial points against one’s opponents, or, often, merely against proxies for one’s opponents. (Obviously, David Axe did not personally invade Georgia, so it’s hard to see how discrediting him could roll those Russian tanks out of there …)
I also feel impelled to observe that Kim Zigfeld is apparently operating without any sense of irony, since her ungrounded “he’s only a blogger” argument could just as easily be applied to her (or me).
Grrr.
Oh, and incidentally:

I wonder if this is the largest NATO flotilla ever in the Black Sea?
No–in Sea Breeze 98, we had
“Over 30 ships and vessels ,one submarine, 10-12 planes, and 10-12 helicopters. ”
operating in the northern portion of the Black Sea.
No wonder this irritates the Russians. It’s like having a Russian fleet operate in the Great Lakes after Canada lets them down the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Information Dissemination: Breaking: Moskva Scrambles Back to Sea
There are no details regarding which four Turkish warships are there, but the other ships would be the SPS Juan de Borbon (F102), the Polish frigate ORP General K. Pulaski (272), the German frigate FGS Lubeck (F214), the US Navy destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74), and the USCGC Dallas (WHBC 716).
Will be interesting to see if this is just Russian crap media reporting, of which I have read a lot this month, or confirmed by other western media reporting.
Not a fun assignment for her skipper. Anything happens, she’s a sitting duck in a small bathtub surrounded by Russian land-based air and missiles.
BBC NEWS | Europe | US warship reaches Georgian port
The destroyer USS McFaul is reported to be carrying supplies such as blankets, hygiene kits and baby food. The supplies will be unloaded by a floating crane as the port is too shallow for the ship to dock.
