Mike Hart cracks one for 18 in preseason outing #2

I love it. And best of all, he’s doing it for a good team.

Terre Haute News, Terre Haute, Indiana- TribStar.com – Colts find positives in Carolina loss
Gotta have Hart — Rookie running back Mike Hart continues to push for a spot on the Colts’ regular-season roster. Hart had 20 yards rushing on just two carries, including an 18-yarder up the middle in the second half of the Carolina game.

“Mike runs well. He just has a feel for the game. Everytime we’ve asked him to do something, he’s done it well. So that’s a good sign.”

Mike Hart = Warrick Dunn?

I’m tracking everything related to Mike Hart, my favorite Michigan running back ever.

Too many running backs – it’s a nice problem | The News-Sentinel – Fort Wayne IN
The back who made the most impact last week, however, was Hart. A star at the University of Michigan, Hart wasn’t drafted until the sixth round, where the Colts were both surprised and pleased to find him available.

In his Colts’ debut, Hart carried four times, springing loose for runs of 14, 19, 11 and nine yards. He also caught three passes for 28 yards. Granted, Hart was facing the Redskins’ third-string defense. But his speed, burst and energy caught coach Tony Dungy’s attention.

“Mike ran and did everything in the game just about as he’s done in practice, and it really wasn’t surprising when you watch him practice and watch him work,” Dungy said. “We felt he would have a good game, and he did everything that he was called on to do.”

Hart knows he has a lot to prove, especially with the skepticism around the league about his speed and size (5-foot-9, 206 pounds).

“I was happy with the way I played, but I know I can do a lot of things better,” Hart said. “I just have to come out and play as well as I can and try not to make mistakes. It’s up to the coaches and Mr. Polian after that.”

Dungy’s words this week indicate that Hart has made the right moves so far. Dungy agreed with a reporter who suggested Hart might fit the mold of Tampa Bay’s compact but tough Warrick Dunn.

Garrison’s departure an unrelated controversy? Not so.

U-M will pay $2.5 million of Rodriguez’s $4-million buyout | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

While Rodriguez claimed in his deposition this spring that he objected to the clause¸ he said he was pressured to sign by the WVU administration, seeking to get Garrison’s new presidency off on a positive public relations front. The school announced last month that Garrison will resign in September following an unrelated controversy.

Unrelated? BS! Rodriguez’s claim was that Garrison was dishonest. Garrison resigned because he was caught in a case of academic dishonesty, giving an unearned degree to a politician’s daughter.

Terrelle Pryor Chooses Michigan

If he does, it’s because he has (correctly) calcuated that this choice will give him maximum attention. If he chooses Michigan, he and Rodriguez will be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Sep. 1. If he chooses Ohio State, he will be a backup quarterback Sep. 1.

Roy Hall, Pryor’s quarterbacks coach, told the Plain Dealer in Cleveland that he believes Pryor will choose Ohio State. But Reitz told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, “I think Michigan has closed the gap some the past few weeks. Their coaches believe they have a shot.”

Wolverines Taking Over California

Camera Spots Wolverine in Sierra Nevada – The Huffington Post

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A research project aimed at weasels has turned up a bigger prize: a picture of a wolverine, an elusive animal scientists feared may have been driven out of the Sierra Nevada long ago by human activity.

The discovery could affect land-use decisions if the wolverine is declared an endangered species, a step the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering, although the animals typically live at high elevations where there is limited development.

A graduate student at Oregon State University, Katie Moriarty, got a picture of a wolverine recently on a motion-and-heat-detecting digital camera set up between Truckee and Sierraville, in the northern part of the mountain range.

Moriarty was trying to get pictures of martens, which are slender brown weasels, for a project she was doing with the U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Research Station.

She said that when she saw the wolverine in the picture early last Sunday morning, it was a “complete shock. It was not something I would expect by any means.”

News of the picture surprised scientists, who thought wolverines, if they still inhabited the Sierra, would be found only in the southern part of the range, not in the Lake Tahoe area.

There had been sightings of wolverines by reputable people but no solid proof they were still in the Sierra, said Bill Zielinski, a research ecologist for the Forest Service who was working with Moriatry.

“The conventional wisdom was that they were pretty much gone from California,” said Zielinski. “There’s been a lot of other camera work and a variety of methods used to track rare carnivores. Those same methods, if wolverines had been around, would have detected them, we thought.”

Michigan has a chance to beat Florida!

CAPITAL IDEA: Michigan to play in Capital One Bowl vs. Florida

The Wolverines will play Florida (9-3), the defending national champion.

If Hart, Long, Henne, and Manningham are all healthy (mentally and physically) these guys can beat anybody on any given day.

mgoblog: Ok, Ok: Herbstreit – Michigan football, hockey, basketball, and general what-have-you
Herbstreit rips U-M on radio – 11/01/06 – The Detroit News Online

(Receiver Steve) Breaston can go back to whatever he’s doing these days, if they could ever find a way to actually apply him in the offense. He’s worthless in my mind, outside of returning a few punts. I’ll say that, and he’ll end up winning the game for them on Nov. 18. But he hasn’t done anything since his freshman year.”

Michigan Spring Football Practice 2006

Caught Michigan’s spring football practice on Saturday. They looked pretty good.

Michigan football spring game 2006

Noteworthy: freshman running back Carlos Brown showed some jets. Sophomore Kevin Grady looked very, very comfortable catching passes one-on-one against the linebackers. Backup QB Jason Forcier is faster than Henne but threw several forced passes that were nearly picked for six. Wideout LaTyrrell Savoy (sp?) showed good hands and made a nice catch near the end zone that got the crowd buzzing.

My prediction after watching the scrimmage? 8-4.
