Great hard-bitten thriller fiction with one of the best final lines I have ever read. E-mail from a reader:
Wow, interesting question. You know that there are several more Wolfe books set in the late sixties and early seventies? THE DOORBELL RANG and A FAMILY AFFAIR are especially good. You know, if you like the period of the forties to sixties, I’m going to give you an unusual recommendation. It’s only unusual because most people have forgotten about these books, which is unfortunate, because they are great. Check out the ELLERY QUEEN mysteries by the pseudonymous author of the same name. You may have to hunt around in used bookstores and interlibrary loan to find them all, but it will be well worth the trouble. |
